ABOUT ADVENTURESS
ADVENTURESS is the ONLY women’s hunting and fishing magazine, and is proud to recently celebrate its 22nd issue and closing in on its 10th anniversary! Founder Jennifer Pudenz, who is an incredibly knowledgeable outdoor woman and accomplished hunter and angler, created ADVENTURESS in 2014 from her own passion for the outdoors and seeing the need in lacking media resources for the outdoor woman.
The magazine was first released in early 2015 as a free, digital-only version for 16 issues.
In late 2021, the ADVENTURESS online store was launched offering gear and other related items chosen specifically with outdoor women in mind, with most products from women-owned, small or local outdoor businesses.
At the beginning of 2023, the magazine was relaunched as a high-quality print magazine with subscriptions.
ADVENTURESS is a quarterly magazine, written by experienced outdoor women with how-to articles that are incredibly informative and created in a way anyone can learn from. While ADVENTURESS has a hunting and fishing base, it also features another outdoor topic in each issue (for example: snowmobiling, mountain biking, four-wheeling, foraging, etc.) that is often a part of the outdoor lifestyle and may also tie into hunting or fishing. ADVENTURESS gives real deal outdoor women the credit they deserve, and a special place to share their knowledge and be featured for their experience and accomplishments. Its pages are an inspiration for women and encourages them to try something new in the outdoors. As a clean, respectable magazine, it also provides women role models for youth and is a great read for families.
FEATURED PHOTOS AND ARTICLE IDEAS
Reader/Social Media Photos: To possibly be featured for the “Reader Photos” pages of the magazine, please follow ADVENTURESS social media. Calls for specific photos are handled on Facebook and tag @adventuressmagazine on your Instagram photos to be seen by the editor. For photos/reels of you with ADVENTURESS magazine or gear, tagging @adventuressmagazine is also the best way for the editor to see and reshare.
Proposed Article:Â ADVENTURESS is different – and keeping ADVENTURESS at a level of high-quality content for its readers means the editor must be very protective of the content accepted. Please understand this is not a source for anyone to submit a personal story to, and not everyone is meant to be published in this magazine. However, this is a source anyone can learn from, anyone can be inspired by, anyone can be a part of the ADVENTURESS social media community, anyone can submit photos to be featured in the “Reader Photos” page of the magazine, and your subscription support means a lot in continuing this women’s outdoor media that is the only one of its kind. YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
This is a small business, in which it means a lot to work with fellow women who support the magazine that supports you, other outdoor women and women-owned businesses. Please do not submit with the attitude of “what can you do for me,” only looking for personal publicity. You will not get published.
Personal stories are rarely ever published in ADVENTURESS because the magazine’s niche is how-to and informative articles. A personal story would have to be an exceptional one, as well as tied in with information the reader can learn from. Submissions without knowing the magazine are almost always rejected because they don’t fit ADVENTURESS’ niche, content or they don’t know what has already been done.
PLEASE, DO NOT REACH OUT ASKING TO BE INTERVIEWED OR FOR YOUR WIFE TO BE INTERVIEWED. That is an obvious sign you do not know ADVENTURESS, and an unfitting submission such as this takes time away from the editor, hurting ADVENTURESS, not helping or supporting it. It is important you subscribe and actually know the magazine before you reach out. It is important you are not reaching out or submitting ideas for someone else, which will not be accepted.
Because of continued issues with submissions not knowing the magazine, you must be a SUBSCRIBER to submit proposed articles. As a magazine specifically for women, only women may contribute writing content to ADVENTURESS magazine. You do not need to be a professional writer – the editor cares most about sharing your knowledge and experience, and will help with any editing as needed. If you are an experienced outdoor woman in a certain topic, you are what ADVENTURESS is looking for, so do not let inexperience in writing hold you back!
Photos are a major part of your article idea being accepted. Photography is just as important as the writing itself. You must have high-resolution/original photos that show what would be in your article. Offering a variety of photos is best. Please think of how you can best help the editor, providing as much as you can to have everything for the article, instead of creating more work for the editing and design.
If you’ve taken these steps and fit the requirements, please submit your article or a THOROUGH idea (just generally asking or letting me know you’d write something without any specifics is not helpful) along with examples of high-resolution/original photos that could accompany the article by emailing editor Jennifer Pudenz at jen@adventuressmagazine.com.
Most articles are created through the editor reaching out to experienced outdoor women. The best way to position yourself for this is for the editor to get to know you. This starts with subscribing and supporting the magazine, following ADVENTURESS on Facebook and Instagram and being active in the pages by participating and commenting. The best way for your photos to be noticed is by tagging @adventuressmagazine on your Instagram photos.
